We built our dream home and there is a wonderful wooded area behind our home. The wooded area has a creek. The creek is moving and eroding my yard and I am worried it will continue to come toward my house. It has already taken away 30 feet of my yard. My husband’s brother told us to dump several truck loads of large boulders on the edge of the creek. Will that fix the erosion? Sincelry, The Creek is Moving.

How old is your subdivision? The developer of the subdivision may have not hired the appropriate civil geotech engineers to design the subdivision. Is there any new construction upstream? It is possible that the new construction has caused the water flow into the creek to change is volume and direction. Dumping boulders into the creek will not fix the erosion properly. You may need a forensic civil engineer to evaluate many things to determine the cause and origin of the change in the water flow and then design a solution.
